Our Creative Director
Hi I’m Elysia - Owner and Creative Director of Maple and Wren. I’m two parts creativity, one part process driven, garnished with a heavy grating of enthusiasm (and I’m #notsorry).
This time 7 years ago, I was not a florist. Far from it. I worked for State Government as a large scale event manager in a strict and very bureaucratic role. Don’t recommend.
I had decided to start a side hustle in event planning and styling and Maple and Wren was born. I have always been a creative person and I’m blessed to come from a long line of creative women – painters, singers, sewers, musicians.
I’ve always considered flowers a large part of the styling of an event and in September 2015 I saw a workshop with the beautiful Rebecca from Fox & Rabbit advertised for unstructured table arrangements and figured it would be a good thing to know a bit more about flowers. You know, so I might be able to ‘throw something together’ if a client needed that. So I went along. And I’ve gotta say – it blew my mind. The process of constructing flowers, the never ending combinations and the idea that you can create something large and luscious and oozing with personality out of a small simple vase and a bucket of flowers that seemingly don’t fit together.
After a whole lot more practice, several more local courses and workshops and lets be honest - a lot of trial and error, wedding and event floristry became our main offering. 7 years on and I’ve now floralled over 200 weddings and events, have an ever expanding team and refined our product, our process and our service to the bespoke luxury business it is today.
I’ve been where you are, not knowing where to start and I learnt a lot the hard way by not knowing who I could even ask the questions that I had.
And that’s where the Floral Art Academy comes in; it exists to redefine luxury floral design, to break down the process and logistics of working as a wedding and event florist and to have a whole lot of fun along the way!
I can’t wait to see you truly bloom with us!
